There is no doubt that the ecological balance along our coastlines is fragile. Erosion is a major problem that many beach communities have to deal with—often with few long term solutions. Planting beach grass is one way to help stabilize fragile sand dunes that serve to protect landward areas from the effect of storm surge and high tides—which seem to be getting higher and higher these days. So, if you go to the beach this summer, take a look around and see how healthy the sand dune areas are—if there are any to look at. (Nikon 300, ISO 200, 70mm, f11, 1/100 sec.
