Castle in France?

I have been reading books about the 100 Year War between England and France during the 15th Century, and when I looked back at a photo I took recently of the foundation of an old stone masonry cotton mill, it reminded me of medieval castles with narrow rectangular windows, through which French crossbowmen would shoot at the attacking English men-of-arms. Thanks to English archers with their longbows, the French hardly ever won these battles. Thus ends my history lesson for today.
