One of the most visited locations along the entire stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and North Carolina is “Peaks of Otter.” Two approximate 4000 foot high mountains (Sharp Top and Flat Top) tower over the Peaks of Otter Lodge with adjacent lake. It’s a beautiful scene, especially in the Fall and Winter months. But, on this hot summer’s day the mid afternoon view of Sharp Top (see why it got its name?) was pretty special as well. Climbing Sharp Top is strenuous, but the 360 degree view at the top is spectacular. Bedford, home to the D-Day Memorial is a short drive from here and it is one of my most favorite small towns in Virginia.
