“Blue” Ridge Mountains

Air pollution largely coming from power plants to the west of the Blue Ridge Mountains gives ridges, peaks and valleys a “blue” hue when viewed from high up and far away. When people ask me why this very old mountain chain is called the Blue Ridge, I pull out a photo like this one.
