For the past several years I often drove past this wonderful old general store along Virginia Highway Route 8 through the Blue Ridge Mountains, and every time I did there was a big truck parked in front…apparently owned by the people who lived in an old house across the highway. So, I passed it by, even though I had my camera ready to go. Then, one day I got lucky…wide open ready for my camera to go click. I.M. Akers General Merchandise. There is an old deserted home behind the store, so this must have been at one time a busy place. I assume gasoline was sold here, given the structure at the front, and I wonder what exactly the building to the right front in the photo was. Like I said…a busy place at one time.
