This wonderfully “old” scene was waiting for me and my camera recently right in the middle of Greensboro, North Carolina. It’s part of the Colonial Heritage Center located adjacent to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park…a location I have had on my “go-to” list for several years. The 1781 battle at Guilford Courthouse was essentially a stalemate between the British and Americans but the British won the ground overall while the Americans went on to eventual victory a couple of years later. There is so much to learn about the path our country took during its earliest days as it sought freedom from British rule. I did not know, for example, that in 1780, both Georgia and South Carolina were in British hands. That point alone has made we buy a new book to read on my Kindle…to follow the one I am now reading “1776” by author David McCullough.
