Standing Guard along the Blue Ridge

Scroll down to content

Wind-twisted but hearty trees such as these have stood guard for decades along ridge lines in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. While I made the photo in color, I felt it would look more dramatic in B&W, especially how they contrasted against the dark sky, which in color was blue. It’s nice how one can process images digitally these days, to make them look as you like.

  1. WOW!! Back in the Tri-X black and white film days, I woud use a red filter to get this look. Lightroom 4 is out. In Lightroom you can darken the sky even more in the color mixer by moving the slider; but you probably knew that.
