All across America there has been a decline in small farming and that’s especially true in areas where that activity is not a simple process…areas where the soils are poor, where the terrain is rugged, or where climatic conditions are not that conducive to growing things…except for weeds. The image I made here is of one such farm located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina right along the border with Virginia. Not only does the pinto pony in the center look a bit worse for wear, but so does the farm. Still, there is beauty in all of this, and for many of us this scene may bring back memories of how it used to be. This is why I love photography…my images can often transport us back in time.
