Insect Life … and Death

I feel fortunate witnessing in real time the beauty of nature which others might miss. Being able to record this with my camera is special. For example, a few days ago I saw a Black and Yellow Garden Spider building its web in the midst of our Hydrangea bush. When I recently went outside to check on how the web-building was going, I captured a a scene of life and death ongoing in the insect world.

A mayfly-like insect had just flown into a Black and Yellow Garden Spider’s web. As it struggled to free itself, the beautifully colored spider rushed out from it’s lair to inspect the disturbance. And I was right there watching it happen in real time.
