I’ve been patiently waiting in SW Virginia to photograph Cardinals, which are designated as our State bird. I finally had a male and a female cooperate nicely. They were perched relatively close together in two adjacent trees. I don’t know for sure but I suspect these two are mates, because if you look close the female has long strands of grass in its beak, meaning there may be nest building underway.

Why is it in the bird group the males are always the most beautiful, however in the human race the females are more beautiful. Great captures
